Industrial Modular Disc Brakes

Industrial modular disc brakes generate braking force through independently configurable braking modules that apply pressure to a rotating disc via friction pads. The modular architecture allows systems to be scaled or customized for different torque requirements, applications, and installation constraints.

Industrial modular brakes are available in direct applied hydraulic and spring-applied configurations, for a wide range of applications.

Hilliard Modular Disc Key Features:

High Braking Force Capability

Modular brake configurations provide braking forces ranging from 5,000 lbf up to 170,000 lbf for heavy-duty industrial applications.

Applied and Fail-Safe Configurations

Available in hydraulically applied, spring-retracted and spring-applied, hydraulically released designs to match specific stopping and holding requirements.

Maintenance-Focused Design

Select spring-applied models feature Hilliard’s Maintenance Mode, which removes stored spring energy to simplify pad replacement, seal service, and monitor adjustment.

HOW IT WORKS

How Do Industrial Braking Systems Work?

Industrial Braking Systems concert motion into controlled stopping or holding force by applying friction to a rotating disc, shaft , rail, or other braking surface. Depending on the application, the brake may be spring-applied for fail safe engagement and then released electrically, hydraulically, or pneumatically during normal operation. This approach helps ensure braking action is available when power is interrupted or emergency stopping is required.

Why Does Brake Performance Matter?

Protects People, Equipment , and Processes

In braking applications, performance is not just about stopping motion. It is about maintaining control, reducing risk, preventing runaway conditions, and protecting operators, equipment, and throughput. Hilliard consistently positions their brakes around safety, reliability, and performance in demanding environments.

Supports Fail-Safe Operation

Many of Hilliard’s brake designs are spring-applied, meaning the brake engages when power is removed. That fail-safe design is important in elevators, conveyors, marine propulsion systems, cranes, and other applications where uncontrolled motion can create serious safety and operational issues.

Improves Serviceability and Life Cycle Performance

The brochures also emphasize easy adjustment, pad replacement, manual release features, monitoring options , and maintenance- friendly design detail. These advantages can reduce downtime, simplify service, and help equipment owners get longer life from the braking system.

Enables Better Application Fit

Brake performance depends on more than one component. Torque requirements, disc size, release method, environmental exposure, mounting geometry, and controls all affect system performance. Hilliard’s product range and custom support make it easier to align the brake system with the real operating demands of the machine.
