MK-4800 Rail Brake
The Hilliard MK4800 is an electromagnetic, fail safe caliper brake. Spring applied, electric released, it is suitable for holding duty and emergency for applications such as heavy duty
Hilliard’s MK Series Rail Brakes and MK Series Disc Brakes utilize a PIV over-energization technique to convert motion into a controlled stopping or holding force for critical, fail-safe applications.
Hilliard’s rail and disc brakes feature a highly reliable, direct-acting design with only one moving part. These spring-applied, electrically released brakes apply braking force to a rotating disc or a rail to stop or control a load. When power to the brake is removed, the springs apply force through the armature plate to the pads, stopping the rotation of the disc. An electromagnetic coil uses a voltage dropping circuit to minimize current draw and heat when the brake is released. The rail and disc brakes are available in various sizes, allowing flexibility in braking force and mounting configurations.

Hilliard manufactures industrial disc brakes and rail brakes in-house.
Common modular brakes and components are available from stock.
Variation in disc diameter and multi-caliper configurations allow adaptation across many applications.
Shipped with manual release bolts for easy assembly. Optional manual release mechanism for momentary release of the brake with a standard open-end or socket wrench.

HOW INDUSTRIAL BRAKING SYSTEMS WORK
Industrial braking systems convert motion into controlled stopping or holding force by applying friction to a braking surface, such as a rail or rotating disc. Depending on the application, the brake may be spring-applied for fail-safe engagement and then released electrically (like our MK electric rail and disc brakes), hydraulically, or pneumatically during normal operation. This approach helps ensure braking action is available when power is interrupted or emergency stopping is required.

Braking performance is not just about stopping motion. It is about maintaining control, reducing risk, preventing runaway conditions, and protecting operators, equipment, and throughput. Our rail and disc brakes deliver safety, reliability, and performance in demanding environments.
MK rail and disc brake designs are spring-applied, meaning the brake engages when power is removed. This fail-safe design is important in elevators, conveyors, marine propulsion systems, cranes, and other applications in which uncontrolled motion can create serious safety and operational issues.
Our rail and disc brakes are designed for easy adjustment and pad replacement, with manual release features and monitoring options. Maintenance-friendly design advantages can reduce downtime, simplify service, and help equipment owners get longer life from the braking system.
Torque requirements, disc size, release method, environmental exposure, mounting geometry, and controls all affect system performance. Hilliard’s product range and custom support make it easier to align the brake system with the real operating demands of the machine.
