Auto Lok™ Differential
Hilliard Automatic Locking Differential
Automatic Traction Without Driver Intervention
The Hilliard Auto Lok™ Differential is a fully mechanical locking differential that automatically engages and disengages based on traction conditions at each wheel. It is designed to replace conventional open differentials by delivering power to both wheels when traction is limited, while still allowing normal differential action during turns.
The system operates without electronics, sensors, or external controls, using internal mechanical response to continuously adjust between locked and unlocked operation.

Hilliard Auto Lok Differential Key Features:
Automatic Locking Mechanism
Engages automatically when wheel slip is detected, without driver input or external actuation systems.
Mechanical Torque Distribution
Directs engine torque to both wheels on the axle rather than allowing full power loss to a single slipping wheel.
Unlocks During Cornering
Allows differential action when wheel speed differences are required for turning and maneuvering.
Fully Self-Contained Design
Operates without electronics, hydraulics, switches, or control systems.
Drop-In Differential Replacement
Designed to replace standard open differentials within compatible drivetrain configurations.
HOW IT WORKS
Transferring Mechanical Power Through Torque-Based Engagement
During normal vehicle operation, a standard open differential allows wheels to rotate at different speeds, especially during turning. However, when one wheel loses traction, torque can be diverted away from the wheel with grip, reducing overall mobility.

The Hilliard Auto Lok Differential responds mechanically to traction differences within the axle assembly:
Torque Equalization Under Load
When both wheels have similar traction, power is distributed evenly across the axle
Mechanical Engagement During Slip
When one wheel begins to lose traction, internal components respond by transferring torque to the wheel with resistance
Differential Release During Turns
When wheel speed differences are required, the mechanism allows smooth differentiation between left and right wheels
Continuous State Adjustment
The system dynamically transitions between locked and unlocked behavior based on real-time traction conditions
The Auto Lok operates as a self-adjusting mechanical system that continuously responds to torque and resistance changes at each wheel, maintaining a balance between traction and maneuverability without external control input.
