Stacked Disc Filtration for High-Viscosity Fluids

HILCO Saflow™ DS and DD Series Stacked Disc Filter Cartridges are engineered to provide reliable filtration during cold starts and high differential pressure conditions. Constructed from stacked cellulose filter discs with labyrinth flow channels, these cartridges combine depth filtration with high dirt-holding capacity to maintain contaminant removal in demanding lubrication and hydraulic applications.

Saflow cartridges are commonly used in systems where high-viscosity fluids, cold operating conditions, or elevated pressure differentials can challenge conventional filter element designs.

HILCO Saflow Stacked Disc Filter Cartridge Key Features:

Stacked Disc Filtration Design

Alternating cellulose filter discs create a depth-filtration structure capable of retaining contamination throughout the cartridge.

Labyrinth Flow Channel Construction

Engineered flow passages direct fluid through a controlled filtration path to maximize contaminant retention.

Cold Start Protection

Designed to withstand elevated differential pressures commonly experienced during startup conditions.

High Dirt-Holding Capacity

Depth-loading characteristics allow contaminants to be retained throughout the disc structure rather than only on the surface.

HOW IT WORKS

Filtering Through a Labyrinth Disc Structure

In high-viscosity lubrication systems, fluid can experience significant resistance to flow during startup and cold operating conditions. These conditions create elevated differential pressures across the filter element, placing additional stress on the filtration system.

By utilizing a stacked-disc filtration design, HILCO Saflow cartridges help deliver:

Controlled Fluid Pathways

Directs oil through engineered labyrinth channels formed between alternating filter discs

Depth Contaminant Retention

Captures particles throughout the thickness of the cellulose disc structure rather than concentrating loading on a single surface

Resistance to Cold-Start Pressure Spikes

Maintains filtration performance during periods of high viscosity and elevated differential pressure

Extended Contaminant Storage Capacity

Distributes captured particles throughout the cartridge stack for increased dirt-holding capability

HILCO Saflow cartridges utilize alternating solid and spoke-style cellulose discs stacked around a center core. Contaminated fluid enters through the outer openings of the disc stack and is directed through a series of labyrinth channels formed between adjacent discs. As the fluid navigates this flow path, particulate contamination is captured on the disc surfaces and within the cellulose pore structure. Clean fluid then exits through the center core and returns to the system. This depth filter cartridge construction supports filtration during cold starts and high differential pressure conditions.

Industries

Proven in High-Viscosity Lubrication Applications

HILCO Saflow Stacked Disc Filter Cartridges are commonly used in applications where cold starts, elevated differential pressures, and heavy-duty lubrication systems require robust filtration performance. The DD/DS Series is a high dirt holding filter for applications where extended contaminant storage capacity is needed between service intervals.

WHY HILLIARD

Why Companies Choose HILCO Saflow Stacked Disc Cartridges

Stacked Disc Depth Filtration

Saflow DS and DD cartridges use stacked cellulose discs to provide depth filtration and capture particulate contamination throughout the media structure.

Designed for High Differential Pressure

The stacked disc construction provides the mechanical strength required for applications that experience elevated differential pressure across the filter element.

Performance During Cold Starts

Saflow cartridges are suited for systems where increased oil viscosity during cold startup can produce higher differential pressure through the filtration system.

Engineered for Demanding Oil Systems

HILCO combines stacked disc cartridge technology with application expertise to support lubrication and industrial oil systems operating under changing flow and viscosity conditions.
