Engineered braking technologies designed to manage stopping, holding, and controlled deceleration in industrial equipment.
BrakeBoss™ hydraulic power units supply hydraulic operating pressure for direct-acting hydraulic brakes and spring-applied / hydraulic-released braking systems. These smart braking controllers use closed-loop dynamic control for continuous monitoring and pressure adjustment based on application speed.
Two brake modes are supported: (1) an emergency stop, triggered when speed exceeds a threshold, initiating full brake engagement, and (2) a controlled dynamic stop, where braking force varies with speed to achieve a consistent, repeatable stopping time.

Manufactured in the United States and competitively priced, with common component parts available from stock.
We offer customized BrakeBoss™ system settings for individual applications.
Paired with our engineered disc brake systems, we can offer complete braking solutions from a single source.

HOW IT WORKS
The BRAKEBOSS line of power units are industrial brake control systems designed to operate a wide range of brake systems in demanding applications such as mining, material handling, power generation and steel. Built to withstand harsh environmental condition, BRAKEBOSS consist of three levels, from basic on/off operation to computer controlled braking.

In braking applications, performance is not just about stopping motion. It is about maintaining control, reducing risk, preventing runaway conditions, and protecting operators, equipment, and throughput. Hilliard consistently positions their brakes around safety, reliability, and performance in demanding environments.
Many of Hilliard’s brake designs are spring-applied, meaning the brake engages when power is removed. That fail-safe design is important in elevators, conveyors, marine propulsion systems, cranes, and other applications where uncontrolled motion can create serious safety and operational issues.
The brochures also emphasize easy adjustment, pad replacement, manual release features, monitoring options , and maintenance- friendly design detail. These advantages can reduce downtime, simplify service, and help equipment owners get longer life from the braking system.
Brake performance depends on more than one component. Torque requirements, disc size, release method, environmental exposure, mounting geometry, and controls all affect system performance. Hilliard’s product range and custom support make it easier to align the brake system with the real operating demands of the machine.
