HILCO Builds New Glycol Filtration System for the LECOM Event Center
HILCO recently completed the fabrication of a PBC627 glycol filtration system for the LECOM Event Center after the arena approached Hilliard for a solution to improve the performance of its glycol refrigeration loop. Over time, glycol can accumulate particulates, corrosion material, and other debris that reduce system efficiency and increase operational costs. The PBC627 addresses these issues by providing a dedicated filtration solution tailored to the arena’s cooling needs.

Purpose of the System
The primary function of the new unit is to remove contamination from the rink’s glycol supply to ensure the fluid remains clean and effective. Consistently clean glycol supports proper heat transfer, helps protect pumps and seals, and maintains stable refrigeration performance. Given the high cost of replacing glycol, an effective filtration system greatly reduces long term operating expenses and prevents premature wear in refrigeration equipment.
Features of the PBC627 Filter System
This system includes six independent filter housings. Each one can be operated individually, allowing the arena to run only the filters required for current conditions. This modular design supports efficient operation, easier maintenance scheduling, and better control of flow rates through the system. The flexibility of the layout also helps prevent unnecessary pressure drop while still delivering high level fluid cleanliness.
Built Through Teamwork
The project required roughly thirty hours of manufacturing time, with work spanning fabrication, assembly, and final preparation. The completed system reflects the combined expertise and attention to detail of the full project team, which included Brandon Adams, Jordan Hayes, Dan Ike, Mike Long, Keith Mase, Ben Mullen, Doug O’Brian, Matt Wales, and Tom Wheeler. Their collective effort ensured that the arena received a well-built, reliable filtration unit suited to the rigorous demands of rink refrigeration.
