Hilliard Hydraulic Start Assembly
Hilliard Hydraulic Starter Drive
Delivering High Starting Torque Through Hydraulic Power
Hilliard Hydraulic Start Assemblies are designed for gas turbine and reciprocating engine starting applications where dependable torque delivery is required. Available in variable and fixed displacement types, these assemblies use hydraulic power to support high-speed operation and efficient startup performance.
Designed with SAE mounting and spline shafts, Hilliard Hydraulic Start Assemblies are suitable for open and closed loop circuits, with typical operating pressures up to 5000 psig (350 bar). Supply includes an overrunning clutch to support proper starter drive operation.

Hilliard Hydraulic Start Assembly Key Features:
Variable and Fixed Displacement Types
Available in displacement options to support different application requirements and hydraulic system designs.
SAE Mounting and Spline Shafts
Designed with standard mounting and shaft configurations for turbine and engine starting applications.
Operating Pressures up to 5000 psig
Supports typical operating pressures up to 5000 psig (350 bar).
High-Speed Operation
Built for high-speed starting applications where rapid engine acceleration is required.
Open and Closed Loop Circuit Compatibility
Suitable for hydraulic systems using either open or closed loop circuit designs.
HOW IT WORKS
Converting Hydraulic Pressure into Starting Torque
Hydraulic starting uses pressurized fluid to produce the rotational force needed to bring an engine up to starting speed. In turbine and reciprocating engine applications, this allows hydraulic power to be converted into mechanical motion through the starter assembly.
The hydraulic drive configuration supports high starting torque efficiency and high-speed operation, making it suitable for demanding applications where controlled startup performance is required.

Hydraulic Pressure Conversion
Uses pressurized fluid to generate rotational starting force.
Efficient Torque Delivery
Supports high starting torque efficiency during the startup sequence.
Circuit Flexibility
Works with open or closed loop hydraulic circuit designs.
Starter Drive Protection
Includes an overrunning clutch to support proper drive behavior as the engine accelerates.
Hilliard Hydraulic Start Assemblies use hydraulic power to drive the starting mechanism and transfer torque through the shaft connection to the engine. Once the engine reaches the required operating condition, the overrunning clutch supports disengagement of the starter drive from the running engine.
